Children's Hospital Boston at Waltham celebrates its first birthday this June, and like many babies, we've grown quite a bit. The ambulatory center at 9 Hope Avenue opened last June with a single clinical floor encompassing 21 subspecialties. Since then, we've added Genetics and Communication Disorders services to our main building, and Physical and Occupational Therapy to nearby 20 Hope Avenue. A second clinical floor, scheduled to open this July, will have two ORs and a 10-chair infusion therapy center. Two more ORs will be added in the fall, and an 11-bed inpatient unit is scheduled to open in March 2007.

Other current and future services in Waltham:

  • Current plain film X-ray, ultrasound and fluoroscopy capabilities will be joined by CT, MRI and Nuclear Medicine this summer
  • Two existing audiology booths, with two more on the way
  • Full-time hours this year in Orthopedics, Urology, Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology
  • Original artwork and movies screened in the waiting area

And people seem happy with our services:

  • Ninety-five percent of those surveyed rated the staff's courtesy and helpfulness as very good to excellent
  • A recent patient survey consistently linked the terms "kind," "helpful," "gracious" and "supportive" to the physicians practicing there

Thanks to everyone who referred a patient to Waltham, our new facility has been a big success. We'll keep you posted as our baby continues to grow.
