Names and faces
Matthew Warman, MD, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, has been named the new director of Orthopedic Research at Children's Hospital Boston. He will also hold an appointment in Genetics at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Warman joins Children's from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and is board-certified in pediatrics, as well as clinical, biochemical and molecular genetics. He is interested in understanding how the human skeleton develops and maintains itself throughout a lifetime of use. As a clinician-scientist, his research in skeletal biology attempts to traverse the interface between basic science and clinical application.
John Meara, MD, DMD, MBA, FACS, FRACS John Meara, MD, DMD, MBA, FACS, FRACS, has been named the new chief of Plastic Surgery at Children's; he starts August 1. Formerly surgeon-in-chief at Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, Dr. Meara completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, his Plastic Surgery residency at Children's and Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and a fellowship in Cleft/ Craniofacial Surgery at Royal Children's. He specializes in cleft lip and palate surgery, craniofacial surgery and health care policy and management.
Dr. Meara replaces Elof Eriksson, MD, PhD, who has been chief of Plastic Surgery at both Children's and BWH since 1986. Dr. Eriksson will continue to be chief at BWH, collaborating closely with Dr. Meara and other plastic surgeons at Children's.
