News Notes

Craig Gerard, MD, PhD, was recently appointed as Children's Hospital Boston's chief of Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Gerard trained in Pulmonology at Children's and later assumed the leadership of the hospital's Ina Sue Perlmutter research laboratory. Dr. Gerard has published more than 150 manuscripts, and his discoveries have played a major role in elucidating the mechanisms of inflammation in the lungs, particularly in patients with cystic fibrosis, as well as defining the role CCR5 as the key HIV co-receptor. Additionally, Dr. Gerard has long served as the clinical director for the adult program in cystic fibrosis at Children's.

In May, the Harvard Pediatric Health Services Research Fellowship Program received the 2003 Outstanding Teaching Award from the Ambulatory Pediatric Association. The program, based at Children's Hospital Boston and directed by Don Goldmann, MD, medical director of Infection Control and Quality Improvement, provides two-year post-doctoral fellows with the opportunity to research issues in the delivery of health care services.

The phone number of Linda Dagi, MD, director of Adult Strabismus was noted incorrectly in the April issue. To schedule an appointment, call (617) 355-6401 (Boston) or (781) 672-2100 (Lexington).
