To better serve families living on the South Shore, Children's Hospital Boston is expanding its pediatric health care services by opening a new, state-of-the-art specialty care center in Weymouth. The new 23,000-square-foot Boston
Children's Physicians South is scheduled to open February 22, with clinicians providing care in a wide range of clinical specialties and services to meet the communities' needs.
What can you expect? The same specialists and quality of care you receive in Boston, more clinical specialties, including Radiology (Diagnostic, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy), Speech Therapy and Phlebotomy and free parking. We'll also continue to provide pediatric emergency services, inpatient services and Neonatology/NICU at South Shore Hospital.

NRC Picker, a division of National Research Corporation, has selected Children's as a recipient of its 2010 Path to Excellence award—an honor based on our commitment to constantly improving the patient experience. The award is given to organizations ranked by their patients as being in the top five in overall hospital experience, pain management and/or communication with nurses.
Children's is now one of only three pediatric hospitals nationwide to be named a Stage 7 hospital by Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), a distinction given to hospitals that have thoroughly implemented electronic health records and are effectively "paperless." The team from HIMSS looked carefully at Children's use of Information Technology, including our use of clinician order entry (which eliminates extra order paperwork), barcoding documentation of bedside medication, filmless radiology, scanning of existing paper documents and our health information capabilities.
Children's was selected as a Leapfrog Top Children's Hospital for 2010, placing us among a distinguished group of the highest performing hospitals in the country when it comes to safety, quality and affordability. Children's was one of only seven pediatric hospitals recognized by Leapfrog, out of a field of 40 that were considered.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) has identified Martha
Eliot Health Center's (MEHC) Early
Intervention Program (EIP) as an example of best practice. The DPH surveyors commended the EIP team for exceptional teamwork, high staff retention and an impressive culture. The survey ended with no citations—an unprecedented achievement, according to the DPH.
As part of Children's ongoing efforts to reduce the price of care provided by the hospital and its specialists and develop better collaboration with community-based providers, we have lowered prices for radiological and surgical services at our satellite locations in Waltham, Lexington and Peabody. Physicians "at risk" for their patients' health care costs will realize direct benefits from these reductions. Importantly, some families will have lower "out-of-pocket" expenses. Because insurers will pay less, we hope they will also be able to offer more affordable health insurance. Our goal remains one of offering high-quality services at a competitive price.
The guide is organized by departments and provides department/division descriptions; physician contact information, including, phone and fax numbers, email addresses; NPI numbers; office locations and directions/maps to Children's.
