Patricia A. Hickey, PhD(c), MBA, RN, NEA-BC, vice president of Cardiovascular/Critical Care Services, was recently inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (AAN). This is a huge honor as the AANís approximately 1,500 fellows are considered nursing leaders in education, management, practice and research.
Jane W. Newburger, MD, MPH, associate cardiologist-in-chief, Research and Education, recently received the Clinical Research Prize for 2009 from the American Heart Association. The prize recognizes Dr. Newburger for her leadership of wide-ranging clinical studies that have produced invaluable new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases that strike children.
Elizabeth Rider, MSW, MD, director of Academic Programs for the Institute for Professionalism and Ethical Practice, was appointed to the National Board of Medical Examiners Communications Task Force. The group is charged with developing assessment of clinical behaviors in physician-patient communication.
David DeMaso, MD, psychiatrist-in-chief, won the 2009 Catchers in the Rye Award for Advocacy to an Individual from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatryís Assembly of Regional Organizations. He was recognized for his ongoing efforts to improve children and adolescentsí mental health services.
Isaac Kohane, MD, PhD, of Children’s Hospital Informatics Program, was elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.
Kenneth D. Mandl, MD, MPH, of the Children’s Hospital Informatics Program, and colleague Richard Platt, MD, recently received a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to enhance health care information management and the detection of and response to emerging public health threats. The grants will fund four new Centers of Excellence in Public Health Informatics, which aim to further the integration of electronic health records and personal health records with public health functions and outcomes.
Eva C. Guinan, MD, associate director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Fanconi Anemia Research Foundation (FARF). It is FARFís highest honor, and recognizes Dr. Guinanís extraordinary leadership in advancing clinical care for FA patients.
