Poison prevention
March 21 to 27 is Poison prevention week

The Regional Center for Poison Control and Prevention is asking health care professionals to share its important poison prevention messages with patients and colleagues during National Poison Prevention Week, March 21 to 27.

The center, which is based at Children's Hospital Boston, provides 24-hour treatment advice to health care professionals and the public on all types of poisonings including medication errors, ingestion of household products, bites and stings, as well as exposure to biological and chemical substances. ñBy providing treatment advice over the phone, the center prevents unnecessary emergency room visits, saving the health care system time and money,î says the center's medical director, Michele Burns, MD.

For poison treatment advice or to order free poison prevention materials, call the center’s 24-hour hotline at (800) 222-1222 or visit www.maripoisoncenter.com.
