News Notes

Martha Murray, MD, has joined Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery Department. She’ll see patients at Children’s Boston campus and Framingham Orthopaedics. To schedule an appointment, call (617) 355-6021.

Rosalind Brown, MD, has joined Children’s Division of Endocrinology. She’ll see patients at Children’s Boston campus and MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. To schedule an appointment, call (617) 355-7476 (in Boston) or (508) 875-5189 (in Framingham). Dr. Brown is former Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Massachusetts.

Alumni notes

Don Berwick, MD, who was an intern and resident at Children’s, has just been awarded the John M. Eisenberg Award for practical application of medical decision-making research. Dr. Eisenberg was administrator of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) until his death in March 2002. Dr. Berwick is currently the President and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).

Michael Epstein, MD, former fellow at Children’s and former director of the Harvard joint program in Neonatology, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. Dr. Epstein served as Children’s vice president for medical affairs from 1989-94, executive vice president and COO from 1995-98, and EVP and chief medical officer from 1998-99.

Jonathan Fielding, MD, MPH, MA, MBA, former intern and resident in the training program at Children’s, has been made chair of Partnership for Prevention, a national non-profit health policy research organization. Dr. Fielding was once the director of Public Health and Health Officer for Los Angeles County and the commissioner of Public Health in the Department of Public Health in Massachusetts.

The American Academy of Pediatrics Wisconsin Chapter has named Peter Havens, MD, FAAP, former intern and chief resident at Children’s, the 2002 Pediatrician of the Year. Dr. Havens co-chaired the statewide HIV/AIDS perinatal workgroup, and was recently selected to serve on the AAP Committee on HIV/AIDS.
