Names and faces

Lynne Ferrari, MD, has been named chief of the Division of Perioperative Anesthesia. Dr. Ferrari has served in several leadership roles for a number of professional societies and government agencies, including the Anesthesia and Life Support Drug Advisory Board of the FDA, chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section on Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and the Board of Directors of the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia, among others.

Brian Skotko, MD, MPP, clinical fellow in Pediatrics has been chosen as a recipient of the Harvard Medical School's 2008 Dean's Community Service Award for his work with the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress.

Lenny Rappaport, MD, MS, chief of the Division of Developmental Medicine and director of the Developmental Medicine Center, was elected president of the Society for Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics beginning October 2008.

Claire McCarthy, MD, has been named medical director of Martha Eliot Health Center (MEHC). Dr. McCarthy has been a member of the MEHC and Children's community for 20 years, beginning her internship at Children's in 1988. She has a deep commitment to primary care and to caring for underserved children and those who face challenging health issues. She is particularly interested in creating a "medical home" at MEHC for children with chronic illness and medically complex disorders.

Judy Palfrey, MD, has been elected as President of the American Academic of Pediatrics. Dr. Palfrey has been a fierce advocate for children, particularly those most in need of help. Being selected by her peers for this prestigious office is a wonderful tribute to her accomplishments in pediatrics and her leadership role around the country.

Oscar Benavidez, MD, MPP, assistant in Cardiology, was awarded the Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Award by the Robert Wood Johnson Program. The four-year, $420,000 award was given for a project that will develop a method to measure and improve diagnostic accuracy of pediatric/congenital echocardiography.
