Gary Fleisher, MD, pediatrician-in-chief and physician-in-chief, was recently elected vice president of the American Pediatric Society; he began serving his term in May. The term is followed by advancing to become president the following year, then joining a Council of Past Presidents for a third year.
William Barbaresi, MD, has been named associate chief of the Division of Developmental Medicine. He joins Children’s from the Mayo Clinic, where he was chair of the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and co-director of the Mayo Clinic-Dana Child Development and Learning Disorders Program. Dr. Barbaresi’s clinical practice includes children with developmental delays, mental retardation, autism spectrum disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities and behavior problems. His research has included studies of the epidemiology of learning disorders, ADHD and autism.

Jennifer Mack, MD, MPH, medical director of Inpatient Oncology, won a Pilot Project Support Grant from the American Cancer Society and the National Palliative Care Research Center. She will examine the interplay between hope, prognosis communication, and end-of-life decision-making to find ways to improve how physicians communicate prognosis and support parents’ hopes for their child’s end-of-life period.
Michael Millis, MD, director of the Adolescent and Young Adult Hip Unit, won the Dr. Marian Ropes Award from the Arthritis Foundation. The award is for excellence in arthritis care and leadership in the fight against arthritis.
