Boston Children's CICU and Cardiology Inpatient Unit honored with Beacon Awards for Excellence

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has honored the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at Boston Children's with a gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence. Nationally, less than one percent of all critical care units meet the AACN's standards, and the CICU's honor brings Boston Children's total number of gold-level Beacon Awards to three. In addition, 8 East, the hospital's Cardiac Inpatient Unit, has been honored with a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence, making it the first pediatric non-ICU in the country to receive a Beacon Award at any level.

Happy Anniversary, Boston Children's North and South!

It is hard to believe, but it has been over a year since Boston Children's clinicians started seeing patients at the new state-of-the-art specialty care centers in Peabody (Boston Children's Hospital North) and Weymouth (Boston Children's Hospital Physicians South). One year later, both centers have plenty to celebrate, providing the same specialists and exceptional quality of care you receive in Boston, more clinical services than ever and free parking without the Boston traffic.

IDDRC receives five more years of funding

The Children's Hospital Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Center (IDDRC) has received another five years of funding from the National Institutes of Health. Co-directed by Scott L. Pomeroy, MD, PhD, neurologist-in-chief, Louis Kunkel, PhD, director of Boston Children's Genomics Program, and Clifford Woolf, MB, BCh, PhD, director of the F.M. Kirby Center and Program in Neurobiology, the IDDRC supports six scientific cores open to investigators working on research that is relevant to intellectual or developmental disorders. Currently, 68 investigators from 15 different departments and five Harvard institutions make up the center's membership. The center's new Neurodevelopmental Behavioral Core facility opened in February.
