David A. Williams, MD, chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology, director of Translational Research at Boston Children's, and associate chair of Pediatric Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, has been selected by the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ASGCT) as the recipient of their 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award. The ASGCT's highest honor, the Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes one Society member per year who has achieved pioneering research success, specific high impact accomplishments or a lifetime of significant contributions to the field of gene and cell therapy.

Stuart H. Orkin, MD, associate chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Boston Children's, is the recipient of the 2012 Donald Metcalf Lecture Award. Established in 1999, the Metcalf Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Society for Hematology and Stem Cells. Named in honor of Professor Donald Metcalf's pioneering work on the control of blood cell formation, the award recognizes distinguished scientists in the field.

Donald Ingber, MD, PhD, senior research associate in Boston Children's Vascular Biology Program, has been honored by the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University with their 2011 Holst Medal. The award was given in recognition of Dr. Ingber's pioneering work exploring the cellular mechanisms that contribute to mechanical control of tissue and organ development.

Basil T. Darras, MD, Boston Children's director of Clinical Neurology, and Seward Rutkove, MD, associate professor of Neurology in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Department of Neurology, have been awarded a $2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study electrical impedance myography and quantitative ultrasound as non-invasive, clinically meaningful, surrogate markers of disease progression in Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Tobias Loddenkemper, MD, of Boston Children's Division of Neurology, has received the American Academy of Neurology's Dreifuss-Penry Epilepsy Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in epilepsy research.

Kathleen M. Gura, PharmD, BCNSP, clinical pharmacist in the Division of Gastroenterology/Nutrition, was recently honored by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition as the winner of their 2012 Distinguished Nutrition Support Pharmacist Service Award.

Jessica Henderson Daniel, PhD, ABPP, director of Training in Psychology at Boston Children's, was recently honored with the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Trust Award. The award is given to benefit teachers who have inspired their students to make a difference in their communities.

Kimberly Stegmaier, MD, assistant in Medicine in the Department of Hematology/Oncology, is the winner of the Society for Pediatric Research Young Investigator Award.
