Waltham adds services, capacity

Children's Hospital Boston at Waltham opened two years ago, and has been steadily expanding its services ever since. Some of the most frequently requested specialties at Waltham have recently expanded to fully operating centers open five days a week.*

These include:

• Orthopedic Surgery/Sports Medicine has 21 exam rooms and 20 specialists seeing patients.
• Otolaryngology has been seeing patients in a dedicated space since November, when it joined the Center for Communication Disorders, which is composed of programs in diagnostic audiology, speech-language pathology and cochlear implants, among others.
• Ophthalmology expanded its Eye Center in January, offering routine and complex care by nine pediatric ophthalmologists and two pediatric optometrists. Specialties include low vision, retinal electrophysiology and electric testing for newborns at risk for blindness. The center also houses Medford Optical, a pediatric eyewear shop specializing in making the process of getting fitted for glasses fun for babies, children and teenagers.

Coming soon

• A new inpatient unit with 11 short-stay surgical beds open six days per week.
• 10 outpatient infusion chairs, created to accommodate patients requiring a host of outpatient intravenous treatments, including blood transfusion, med infusion and allergy testing.
• Sleep Clinic with three beds with care provided by specialists from neurology and pulmonology.
• Headache Clinic with multidisciplinary care from neurology, acupuncture and Children's chronic pain clinic.
