David Miller, MD, PhD, who's been a clinical geneticist at Children's Hospital Boston since 2005, has joined the Neurofibromatosis (NF) Program. Dr. Miller specializes in DNA diagnostics, congenital malformations and dysmorphology. He is also board certified in clinical genetics, clinical molecular genetics and pediatrics.

Tran wins Dr. Philip D. Herrick Award
Children's Hospital Boston neonatologist and director of Neonatology at Beverly Hospital Tai Tran, MD, was awarded the third annual Dr. Philip D. Herrick Award. The award is given by Northeast Health System (NHS), parent company of Beverly Hospital, which is part of the Children's Hosital Network and honors physician excellence and community commitment. "Dr. Tran is deeply committed to his patients and community," says Stella Kourembanas, MD, chief of Newborn Medicine at Children's. "Children's Hospital Boston and Beverly Hospital are fortunate to have him as a member of our respective medical staffs. The professionalism, dedication and leadership that he brings to his role are critically important to the success of the Children's Hospital Network." Since 1997, Children's physicians have managed and staffed Beverly Hospital's Level II Special Care Nursery under Dr. Tran's leadership.

Steve Gordon, COO of Children's Hospital Boston at Waltham, recently became a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, the nation's leading professional society for healthcare leaders. Fellow status represents achievement of the highest standard of professional development.

The Office of Child Advocacy(OCA) is pleased to welcome B. Christopher Sumner as director of Community Outreach. Sumner will help the OCA implement the hospital's community benefits strategy of "Healthy Children, Healthy Communities." In his role, he will be responsible for building relationships with community organizations and other key partners in the city that improve the health of Boston's children and families.

A Boston native, Sumner is an accomplished community relations executive with a strong background in working with youth in the greater Boston area. He received his bachelor's degree in Social Sciences and Human Resources from Springfield College. He has spent the past two years as the Executive Director of the Boston TenPoint Coalition. Previously, he was the Executive Director of the Blue Hill Boys and Girls Club. Sumner is also a Youth Minister with Jubilee Christian Church International.
