STEP Webcast
April 3 at 10:30 a.m. EDT

Tom Jaksic, MD, PhD, surgical director of Children's Hospital Boston's Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) Program, will perform a serial transverse enteroplasty (STEP) bowel lengthening and tapering procedure on a 6-year-old pediatric patient with SBS during a live Webcast. Moderating the broadcast will be Robert Shamberger, MD, chief of Surgery, and Heung Bae Kim, MD, surgical director of the Liver, Intestine and Multivisceral Transplantation Center. Christopher Duggan, MD, MPH, medical director of the Short Bowel Syndrome Program will provide commentary on the medical and nutritional needs of patients with SBS. The doctors will answer email questions from viewers during the live broadcast.

Buckle Up America! Week May 22 to 29
Children's Hospital Boston, led by David Mooney, MD, director of the Trauma Program, Janet Spellman MS, RN, Regional Trauma nurse specialist, and the Children's Advocacy Network, has been working closely with the Seat belts Are For Everyone (SAFE) Coalition to convince legislators to upgrade the mandatory seat belt law from secondary to primary enforcement. This law was recently passed by the Massachusetts House of Representatives, so the team is now focused on passage in the Senate.
