Children's Hospital Boston's Web site offers an exciting new feature in the top right corner of the homepage. It's called "Request an Appointment," and it allows families to send an electronic request for an appointment in one of many departments and programs.

The requests go to a representative in the department or program, who gets back in touch with the requestor within two business days. The requestor can even leave a window of time when it might be best to call back, helping to eliminate rounds of phone tag. Requests have come in from throughout New England and New York, and as far away as Texas and Alaska.

The service was launched in October 2005, and the response has been very positive. So far, 16 departments and 90 programs are signed up to accept patient requests, and there have been nearly 500 appointment requests.

To access the "Request an Appointment" feature, visit: www.childrenshospital.org/appointment.
