| Founded by Judah Folkman, MD, the Vascular Biology Program is dedicated to the study of a large number of pathological conditions that are characterized by abnormal blood vessel growth. These conditions include virtually all cancers, degenerative eye diseases including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis, and obesity. The program is responsible for the development of new anti-cancer drugs that target the process of angiogenesis, or the production of new blood vessels, to support growing tumors.
Featured researchers in the Vascular Biology Program hold faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School.
