Beginning in 1882, the Orthopaedic Department used a gymnasium to help treat disabled patients. This gymnasium was equipped with many devices to aid in rehabilitation. This picture shows the older gymnastic room in Orthopedic Ward Five and a number of patients "slowly but surely getting straightened out," in the words of a fundraising brochure of the time.
