The first two floors of Children's Bader Building housed a physical therapy department as well as a hydrotherapy pool for polio patients. Before the pool opened in 1930, polio patients received treatment in a therapeutic tank called a Hubbard tub. In both cases, the support provided by water made muscle movements easier for patients and allowed them to build up strength.
