Michael Z. Lin

Brief Personal Statement:

As of this writing (May 1997), I have just finished my first year of graduate school, and the last set of classes I will ever have to take. I am also on leave between my second and third years from the UCLA School of Medicine, where I was formerly in the MSTP. I don't officially have a middle name, but I thought I should get myself one before I got lost will all the other "M. Lin"s in the databases -- just in case I actually publish something. The Z stands for my Chinese name, so it's not entirely out of frivolity. I was born in Taiwan, but only stayed there for five years before moving to Long Island, Massachusetts, and then San Diego. Between school, home, school, and more school, I have been back and forth between the two coasts. The distinct positives and negatives of each place (here's one example) have made me habitually a little restless. Chances are you will find me back in California in a few years.

Research:

Some previous research was on cell cycle control in Drosophila with Larry Zipursky at UCLA. Currently I am working on dissecting the biochemistry and function of Eph receptor tyrosine kinases in the mammalian nervous system.
