Gifts from Alumni

At Scott Dougan's farewell party, Scott gave small, personalized gifts to each member of the lab. For example, he gave Ravi Misra a shopping bag full of Fritos because Ravi used to steal Fritos from Scott. Morgan Sheng continued the tradition at his farewell party in 1990. He gave each member of the lab a Joe Boxer t-shirt (purchased at a substantial discount from Filene's Basement, as Morgan informed us). In this photo, we see Seth and Morgan wearing these shirts at Morgan's last lunch-deal with the lab. (Another remarkable feature of Morgan's farewell party was the laying on of hands: Morgan touched each person on the head while he said something (sentimental and appreciatory, or maybe just insulting) about that person.)

Thus began the tradition whereby a person leaving the lab presents a gift to the members of the lab. Here is a chronicle of that tradition:

Who? What?
Scott Dougan for each person a small personalized gift
Morgan Sheng for each person a Joe Boxer t-shirt
Susan Schiavi for each person a mug with their picture on it and a cute inscription
Pang Fan for the lab a stereo (boom box), and for each person cassette tapes of two albums (personalized), and two bars of Lindt chocolate
Hilmar Bading art for the lab
Vic Rivera a history of the lab, presented as a collage of photos and other memorabilia
Tam Thompson (joint gifts) for the lab a CD player to connect to Pang's boom box, and for each person a monogramed telescoping pointer
