Is the internship paid?Group Presenting

No.  At this time we are not able to compensate our interns.

What type of schedule should I expect, and what is the time commitment?

We expect interns to commit at least 20 hours/week. About 50% or more of your time should be spent on your assigned project. We have selected projects that should be able to be completed within the time of your internship. Expected completion of each project entails development and submission or IRB protocol, data retrieval, and development of publication. If the project successfully yields a publication, your name will be listed as an author.

Also required are regularly scheduled meetings with you, Program Managers, and the rest of the intern team.  Additionally, you will have meetings with the principal investigator of the study and Internship Program Managers to discuss the progress of your study and troubleshoot any issues you may be having.

Will I be able to observe cases in the OR and how often?

For interns who are here for one full year, once your project is underway and you have completed at least 10% of the work, you will be trained as an anesthesia technician and will be in the OR one day a week.  For students who are here for a shorter amount of time, you will be able to shadow cases related to the project you are working on; you will also have the opportunity to shadow Anesthesia Research Team members in the OR so you can observe data collection for prospective studies.

How long is anesthesia technician training? Will I be working on my own in the OR once trained?

Although you will find yourself very busy in the OR, you will not be working on your own.  You will always be working with an anesthesia technician already on staff so that you may ask questions, troubleshoot issues, etc.

What types of research projects do students work on?
