| Trial Description: | Painful bladder syndrome (also called interstitial cystitis, hypersensitive bladder or chronic pelvic pain syndrome) is a common condition in adults with no known cure that is being seen with increasing frequency in children. It is estimated that every 15 seconds, a person in the US is diagnosed with this condition. Studies have also suggested that painful bladder syndrome may be genetic and passed down (or inherited) from one generation to the next. Here at Childrens Hospital Boston, the Harvard Urological Diseases Research Center is conducting a research study on the genetic causes of painful bladder syndrome, interstitial cystitis, hypersensitive bladder and chronic pelvis pain syndrome (PBS/IC/HBS/CPPS). We hope that information gained from this study will help us to improve our understanding of these conditions and lead to earlier diagnosis and better treatment. |
| Recruitment Info: | We are interested in recruiting individuals and/or families aged 8-adult that have urgent or frequent urination and/or abdominal or pelvic pain. Participants would be asked to donate a saliva and urine sample and complete 2 brief questionnaires. Unaffected family members are also invited to participate. The study is free to participants and there is no financial compensation for enrollment. Participation can be done in person at Children's Hospital Boston or via the phone and mail. |
