| Principal Investigator: | Alyssa LeBel |
| Trial Description: | We are interested in how the brain activity of healthy kids differs from the brain activity of children and adolescents with migraines. We are interested in how brain activity and sensitivity to touch and temperature is different. This information may lead to a better understanding and maybe even better treatment for migraines. Children will have a short physicians visit with Dr. Alyssa Lebel which will be like a normal doctors visit, testing things like their eyes, ears and reflexes. They will then take part in testing their sensitivity to touch and hot and cold temperatures. Finally, they will have an MRI brain scan (a computer picture of their brain) where they will be asked to lie still for up to 45 minutes. The machine that is used to do the brain scan (MRI) is safe for children (does not use ionizing radiation) and is used regularly to study brain activity in both children and adults.

| Recruitment Info: | We are recruiting children (8-11 years old) and adolescents (14-17 years old) with either classical/common migraines OR no significant medical history and on no medications. Children will receive a free picture of their brain, as well as $30 at each visit. There is free parking at CHB Waltham. Participation includes up to 2 visits to CHB Waltham, each with the same procedures described above and each visit may take up to 2 hours. There are no direct benefits in participating in this study, but participants will contribute to important medical research on the possible causes of chronic pain in affected children and adolescents. |
