| Find a Clinical Trial |
| Principal Investigator: | Mary Ellen McCann |
| Trial Description: | This study is research, and its purpose is to evaluate the two types of anesthesia that are commonly used for young children who need hernia repairs. We plan to follow the brain development of children who have had either general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia at a young age.
Study Procedures: During the study, children scheduled for hernia repair at Children's Hospital Boston will be given either general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia. The type of anesthesia administered will be randomly selected (or by chance). At one to two years of age, study staff will administer a test to determine how well the participant is doing developmentally. At age five, the study staff will administer an intelligence test.
Participants in this study will be in contact with the study staff over a
period of approximately 5 years.
Compensation: Parking costs will be reimbursed.
