Public Health, Community, and Advocacy

Public Health and Community

In collaboration with the Harvard Medical Schools' Office for Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Partnership (DICP) and the BCH Office of Government Relations, PRADA has created several venues for members to help raise public awareness of health issues and serve at risk populations throughout the local communities (Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, Roxbury etc.). We also work closely with DICPs Project Success, EXPLORATIONS, and Reflection in Action; programs designed to introduce underrepresented youth to the health professions through hands-on exposure and mentorship. PRADAs annual, daylong conference, YOUth Career and Networking (YOU CaN), is a similar program that targets underrepresented high school and college summer interns at BCH.

In collaboration with the Office of Government Relations and the Children's Advocacy Network (CAN), PRADA has established a venue for members to become actively involved in the legislative process, by advocating on State and Federal issues that they are most passionate about.

State Bills

  • S 2407 which would require all schools to teach Physical Education in all grades as well as other measures to promote health and wellness
  • S 994 which is a MassHealth pilot to expand preventative dental care for high risk children, based on a BCH model

  • Support reauthorization and adequate funding of the Children's Hospital Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program which was created to support training activities that other hospitals usually receive through Medicare.
  • Procure adequate NIH funding for pediatric research to ensure future improvements to health and well-being.
