Research Overview

Dr. Katz-Wise uses mixed methods to investigate sexual orientation and gender identity development, sexual fluidity, health disparities related to sexual orientation and gender identity in adolescents and young adults, and psychosocial functioning in families with transgender youth. She is currently working on an NIH-funded community-based study using longitudinal mixed methods to examine how the family environment affects the health and well-being of transgender adolescents. She is also involved in advocacy efforts to improve the workplace for LGBTQ employees and care of LGBTQ youth and families at Boston Children’s Hospital.

About the Researcher

Dr. Katz-Wise is an Assistant Professor in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, and in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. She is also an Instructor in Social and Behavioral Sciences and an affiliated faculty member of the Women, Gender, and Health Interdisciplinary Concentration at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. In addition, Dr. Katz-Wise is the co-chair of the Boston Children's Hospital Rainbow Consortium on Sexual and Gender Diversity and co-facilitates the Alliance of Gender Affirming Professionals (AGAP), a New England-based group of professionals who work with transgender and gender nonconforming youth and families.
