The PPST is a brief screening tool for children and adolescents with chronic pain and their parents. Identification of patients with low, medium, and high levels of prognostic risk factors will inform how to proceed with pain treatment recommendations and optimize treatment interventions targeting youth with pain. The objective of this study is to evaluate the validity of the PPST parent and child version and determine if the PPST is an effective tool to identify patient subgroups based on prognostic indicators and severity and subsequently guide treatment decision-making. This screening tool is a pediatric adaptation of the draft musculoskeletal version of the Keele STarT Back Screening Tool (© 2007) University of Keele. The SBST has been used successfully with adults to stratify patients into treatment and measure treatment response in lieu of several questionnaires. Identification of patients with low, medium, and high levels of risk will inform how to proceed with psychological interventions and optimize treatment recommendations in our pain clinic.
