Training

A major challenge facing the new Translational Neuroscience Center and the field in general is the shortage of trained translational neuroscientists worldwide. Boston Children’s is fortunate to have leaders in the field such as William Barbaresi, MD, Basil Darras, MD, Louis Kunkel, PhD, Charles Nelson, PhD, Scott Pomeroy MD, PhD, Christopher Walsh, MD, PhD, and many others. Thus, another goal of the new Translational Neuroscience Center is to provide opportunities for these leaders in the field to share their expertise with the next generation of physician-scientists.

Translational Neuroscience Seminar Series
The TNC already offers a monthly seminar series for physicians, medical students, clinical trials staff, laboratory principal investigators and post-doctoral fellows. Contact the TNC administrative offices for more information or to receive meeting reminders at at tnc@childrens.harvard.edu.

TNC Fellowship Program
Mustafa Sahin, MD, PhDActing Director
The TNC is now seeking funding for TNC Fellows, who would serve at Boston Children’s for two years, spending part of their time in relevant clinics and the remainder on dedicated research projects at the interface of science and medicine in translational neuroscience. The launch of the TNC Fellowship Program will be announced when the time is appropriate for applicants to submit materials.

Introduction to Drug Discovery for Neuroscientists: Summer Series
Robin Kleiman, PhDDirector
Weekly lectures on the basics of pre-clinical drug discovery for the neuroscience community. It is intended to give translational neuroscientists insight into the small molecule drug discovery process and an overview of the local industrial landscape of neuroscience.

Other TNC Educational Programs
The TNC held its Inaugural Symposium in Boston on October 29, 2014 at the Joseph B. Martin Conference Center, and the first Neurodevelopmental Disorders Symposium was held on October 26, 2015. Future events include the second annual Neurodevelopmental Disorders Symposium to be held on November 21, 2016.
