BD Biosciences FACSAria flow cytometer/cell sorter
We have recently acquired a state-of-the-art FACSAria flow cytometer/cell sorter, supported through the generosity of the St. Giles Foundation. This revolutionary BD Biosciences instrument is a three-laser cell analyzer/flow sorter with fiber optics and digital readout, allowing quantitation based on up to 11 different cell parameters (Table on p.22: FACSAria Fluorescent Dye Detection ). Gated cell populations can be sorted into sterile multi-well culture plates, or into 4 separate tubes. Recent advances in flow cytometry instrumentation and in specific multi-color fluorescent dye labeling of cell surface and intracellular markers now permit rare stem cells to be identified, purified, and studied. We are currently developing protocols for isolating mesenchymal stem cells and osteoprogenitor cells, analyzing osteogenic differentiation, quantitating gene expression, and interrogating intracellular signaling on a single-cell basis.
Nikon TE-2000 Microscope: This microscope is fully equipped with a SPOT slider digital camera for high-resolution gray-scale and color imaging by epifluorescence, phase, DIC, and polarization optics. Image correction, analysis, and display employs SPOT Camera and Scanalytics IPLab software packages.
