Evidence Based Medicine Readings

EBM Curriculum 2009-2010

The goal of the EBM Journal Club is to teach critical care fellows how to critically appraise the medical literature. In addition, fellows will learn and practice skills in how to teach EBM to their colleagues. The journal club is held monthly and currently takes place on the second Thursday at noon. The 1-hr session is aimed at appraising an article using one or more of the User's Guides to the Medical Literature series published in JAMA and in Critical Care Medicine.

Fellows will participate in these sessions either as active contributors to the discussion, or on a rotating basis, as the presenter or facilitator of the discussion. Each fellow will be expected to lead at least one EBM session for every year they participate in the critical care fellowship programs. Fellows are also strongly encouraged to submit their article critiques to pedsccm EBM online journal club for online publication. The following topics will be covered every year: Therapy, Prognosis, Systematic Review, Risk or Harm, and Diagnosis. Below is the syllabus for the 2009-2010 Academic Year.
