The BCHSP offers its learners the latest in simulation technology and innovation. As the surgical branch of simulation grows here at Children’s, the BCHSP has invested in virtual reality trainers which elevate all aspects of surgical training. While traditional surgical training uses artificial tissues, virtual reality simulators provide visual and haptic feedback for the participant which allows him/her to “feel” the procedure as if in an OR environment. Devices such as AngioMentor and LapSim successfully function as task trainers but they are also able to be integrated into larger scenarios where participants can practice a procedure in the context of a team setting.
Simbionix ANGIO Mentor™ is a multidisciplinary endovascular surgical simulators that provide fully simulated hands-on practice of endovascular procedures performed. ANGIO Mentor pairs these virtually real procedures with educational aids, training material, additional viewpoints, and comprehensive performance feedback to create a complete training package.
LapSim Basic Skills allows the trainee to learn and practice a range of basic surgical skills. These tasks range from basic navigation to advanced suturing. With this advanced sofware we can customize modules to create scenerios and potential complications that surgeons endure during laproscopic surgery.
