REQUIRED CLINICAL TRIALS REGISTRATION
In September 2004, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) published a statement saying that they would only publish clinical trials that were registered on a publicly accessible registry. A reminder of this initiative was also recently published in the June 9, 2005 issue of the NEJM. Based on this information it is now clear that investigators who wish to publish clinical trials in the ICMJE journals will need to have their trials registered. Editors from these journals will require that as of July 1, 2005 clinical trials must be registered in accordance with the following guidelines in order to be accepted for publication.
