Technology and Innovation Development Office (TIDO)

The Technology & Innovation Development Office (TIDO) is the industry gateway to Boston Children's Hospital researchers, and biomedical innovations and technologies in all major biomedical markets for both pediatric and adult applications. TIDO has full responsibility for the protection, marketing and commercialization of all hospital intellectual property (IP) and non-patentable intellectual property such as research tools, software and know–how. All commercial licenses and industry sponsored research and collaborations are negotiated and executed through TIDO. TIDO also provides startup expertise and resources to facilitate the formation of new companies around Boston Children’s technologies and IP.

TIDO manages Boston Children’s Technology Development Fund (TDF), which was launched in 2009 to advance the stage of development of promising BCH technologies and support their translation into new devices, diagnostic tests and therapeutics that can benefit our patients and the broader public. In addition to providing financial support for selected projects, the TDF provides access to an external advisory board (link) of industry experts in product development, who also serve as mentors for the selected projects, and a network of preferred contract research organizations with the expertise necessary to execute specific project plans.

Business Development within TIDO connects Boston Children's Hospital investigators with industry to create opportunities for partnerships at all stages of research, development, and pre-clinical and clinical investigation. TIDO connects Boston Children’s groups with industry counterparts with similar R&D objectives and complementary resources.

The TIDO team is comprised of professionals with experience in academic and industry biomedical research, technology licensing, company startups, business and law. TIDO sets up partnerships with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, HCIT and medical device companies at all stages to achieve its mission.
