Recently, the American Academy of Pediatrics released new recommendations and guidelines for cholesterol screening and treatment in children. In these recommendations, it was suggested that adult cholesterol-reducing medications, like statins, should be considered for treatment in children as young 8-years-old with high levels of cholesterol. Here, Sarah de Ferranti, MD, MPH, director of the Preventative Cardiology Clinic at Children's talks about the AAP guidelines and offers advice to worried parents.
