The Karp Family Research Laboratories building is located directly opposite the Main Entrance to Children's. Opened in 2003 with 12 stories of light-filled atria and research labs, the building houses a thousand researchers studying different diseases. It is also home to more than one million zebra fish that have become a key animal model for studying many genetic diseases in humans.

1. Enders Research Building
Opened in 1970, this research facility was named in honor of Children's researcher and Nobel Prize recipient John F. Enders (above) for his pioneering work with polio, measles and other major viral pathogens. At the time, it was the largest facility in the world dedicated to pediatric research. Today more than 1,000 researchers work within its walls.

2. Hunnewell Building
Opened in 1914, the Hunnewell Building was Children's first building on the Longwood campus and included an administration area, a nurses' residence and a variety of inpatient services. Today it houses outpatient clinics and numerous administrative offices. The above photo depicts the facade of Hunnewell's entrance circa 1919 and the hospital's herd of cows that provided tuberculosis-free milk for the patients.

3. Harvard Medical School
Children's is the primary pediatric teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, where all of Children's physicians hold faculty appointments. Established in 1782, Harvard Medical School is one of the world's preeminent institutions in medical education and research.
