Virtual Tour: MR-OR |

Children's MR OR is home to the world's first-of-its-kind Intraoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system, where a magnet suspended from the ceiling moves in and out of the OR on rails. The mobility of the MRI unit lets surgeons use their usual metal surgical tools instead of the non-metallic instruments that must be used in standard MR operating rooms.

1. Magnetic Resonance Imager (MRI)
Suspended from a piece of structural steel, the 15,000-pound magnet is brought out from behind doors to take images before, during and after an operation so surgeons can remove brain and other tumors with utmost accuracy. The photo above shows the MR imager being hoisted to an opening in the building during construction.
