Virtual Tour: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) |
Two new, state-of-the-art intensive care units provide critical care services for a variety of clinical programs and serve as one of the largest extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) centers in the United States. The 24-bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (not shown) is one of the highest volume pediatric intensive care units in the United States.

1. Ceiling Mounted Equipment
The unit's new ceiling-mounted booms are stocked with nearly everything needed for patient care - including surgical lights and small TVs for patients. In addition to moving wires and equipment off the floors, the booms and beds are in the center of the room so clinicians can have 360-degree access to patients.
2. Parent's Alcove
The new ICUs are designed to include more room for family members. Next to each window is a wardrobe and a built-in bed.
3. Nurses' Station
The nurses' station is the center of activity on the unit and is where the coordination of a patient's care takes place. The station is centrally located to allow for quick, responsive access to patient beds.
