  • To start, aim to do something active every day. Options include participating in a sport or an exercise class, going for a walk or doing something active at home. There’s so much you can do!

  • Once you are comfortable being active, improving your fitness level is the next goal towards achieving good health. Strive to be active for at least an hour each day, and most importantly, plan to exercise vigorously at least 3 times/week for at least 30 minutes. This means you are breathing faster, your heart is beating faster and you’re sweating. You can start with intervals of high/low intensity (such as 1 minute jog/1 minute walk) as tolerated while you increase your fitness and can exercise longer. Many people find it best to sign up for a class or exercise program in order to best meet this higher intensity level. Be sure to warm up and cool down for 3-5 minutes too!

  • The OWL program offers exciting and effective exercise programs just for OWL patients. These are great place to meet other OWL kids/families and begin and start an exercise habit in a place where you truly feel comfortable. We can also direct you to our Resource Specialist for community based programs.  Speak with your OWL provider about these and other ways, including things to do at home, to improve your fitness.
