The survey also ranked Children's Hospital Boston's Cardiovascular Services Program No. 1 in the country, with Children's Orthopedic Care ranking second and Cancer Care ranking fourth.

"With over 8 million children hospitalized each year, Child magazine believes it is important to champion those children's hospitals that offer superb medical treatment, as well as sensitive and supportive care to families," says Miriam Arond, Child magazine's editor-in-chief. "Our goal is to highlight those pediatric institutions that are excelling in their mission, as well as to make parents aware of what services and qualities to look for in their local hospitals."

Survey Methodology:
To be considered for the Child magazine survey, a hospital must be among the full members of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions: 116. The magazine survey consisted of 247 questions examining the institutions vital medical information including survival rates, the number of complex procedures and intricate surgeries conducted, the volume of research studies, efforts made to reduce medical errors, and the quality and training of doctors and nurses--as well as child-friendliness, support for families, and community involvement. Of the 116 hospitals, 86 completed the survey. The responses were graded to determine the best hospitals overall and the leaders in six pediatric subspecialty areas.
