Children's Hospital Boston has again been listed as one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country, according to U.S.News & World Report. The July 17 "America's Best Hospitals" issue relied on surveys of physicians nationwide to determine the rankings. Since the magazine began ranking hospitals 17 years ago, Children's has either been the first or second best pediatric hospitals in the country. This year, Children's is ranked second nationally and remains the number one pediatric hospital in New England. The hospital's reputational score was 43.6 percent.
"The results of this survey are a testament to the incredible dedication and work done by the caregivers, employees and volunteers of Children's Hospital Boston," said Sandra Fenwick, Chief Operating Officer of Children's. "We are honored to be recognized by physicians throughout the country."
The annual issue of the magazine ranked 176 top medical centers in 16 specialties. The methodology for the rankings was devised in 1993 by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago, and today NORC carries out and refines the methodology. Pediatric rankings are based solely on reputational surveys, and NORC surveyed 200 randomly selected pediatricians who were asked to name the five hospitals they considered to be the best in their specialty.
According to U.S. News, the purpose of the "America's Best Hospitals" issue is to assist consumers in identifying medical institutions known to demonstrate the highest level of expertise in diagnosing, treating, or managing difficult medical conditions.
