Kids at Heart Marathon team raises $949,000 for Children's
Two months after the Boston Marathon®, pledges to our Kids at Heart Marathon team are still coming in. The total so far: $949,000.

One hundred forty-one first-timers and marathon veterans ran for Children's Hospital Boston April 18. Among them were an Australian and a 71-year-old retired school teacher. Some of the loudest cheers came from some of the smallest spectators--Children's patients who were matched with runners for inspiration during training.

Here's what a few patient families and runners had to say about the Kids at Heart experience:

"What has been extra, extra special has been getting to meet and bond with my patient partner, Hailey, and her family, the Manducas. Believe me, I have received so much more back from this experience than I've given. I consider myself lucky to have had such a wonderful opportunity." Bob Cargill (qualified runner)

"We cannot express to you what this meant for our family. The runners were great and became part of our extended families. The expressions of anticipation on our children's faces and as they were waiting for their runners to go by--we truly cannot express with words. Thank you for making our special family part of yours." Manduca Family (patient partner family)

"My family and I were our own little Children's cheering section about 1 mile from the finish line and we had a great day. Our Timmy's runner, Lisa, looked like she was out for a leisurely stroll--we couldn't believe how great she looked! We thank you for allowing us to keep Timmy in our hearts in such a beautiful and happy way." Peggy Bernard (patient partner's mom)

"The Kids at Heart Marathon team was an amazing experience for me. I have run lots of races and competed in many competitions, but nothing compared to running for Children's. The best part of the Boston Marathon had to be turning onto Boylston and having the large Children's cheering section go nuts and knowing what a difference we can make in children's lives." Erin Fitzpatrick (qualified runner)

"Thank you all for the great support along the 26.2 mile journey last week. It was so great to hear all the yells of encouragement--those kids and their strength in the face of all they have to go through is really what got me up those hills!" Mary Campbell (qualified runner)
