The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that organs and tissue taken from the body of a middle-aged Kentucky man turned out to have been infected with hepatitis C virus and cited four instances in which recipients became infected with that virus, including a patient treated at Children’s. The donor was not known to have the disease and an unnamed tissue bank incorrectly read a test in March, marking the donor’s tissue as negative for hepatitis C.
