Children's Hospital Boston Ranked Among the Country's Top Pediatric Hospitals
Children's Hospital Boston is again one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country, according to US News & World Report. The July 28 ''America's Best Hospitals'' issue relied on surveys of physicians nationwide to determine this year's rankings. Since the magazine began ranking hospitals 14 years ago, Children's has been among the top hospitals. This year, Children's Hospital Boston is ranked number two, and is the number one pediatric hospital in New England. Our reputational score continues to climb from last year, from 51.6% to 55.4%.

''This is a wonderful endorsement of the incredible work of Children's Hospital Boston's caregivers, employees, and volunteers,'' said James Mandell, MD, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Boston. ''This honor recognizes our expertise in improving the health of children across the state, New England, and the world.''

The annual issue of the magazine ranks 205 top medical centers in 17 specialties. The methodology for the rankings was devised in 1993 by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago, and today the NORC carries out and refines the methodology. Pediatric rankings are based solely on reputational surveys, and the NORC surveyed 180 randomly selected pediatricians who were asked to name the five hospitals they considered to be the best in their specialty.

According to US News, the purpose of the ''America's Best Hospitals'' issue is to assist consumers in identifying medical institutions known to demonstrate the highest level of expertise in diagnosing, treating, or managing difficult medical conditions.

Founded in 1869 as a 20-bed hospital for children, today it is a 300-bed comprehensive center for pediatric and adolescent health care grounded in the values of excellence in patient care and sensitivity to the complex needs and diversity of children and families. More than 100 outpatient specialty clinics are located at Children's. Children's Hospital Boston is the primary pediatric teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, home to the worlds leading pediatric research enterprise, and the largest provider of health care to the children of Massachusetts For more information about the hospital visit: www.childrenshospital.org.
