Boston, Mass. -- Children's Hospital Boston is kicking off Milagros Para Niños (Miracles for Children), its first-ever Latino community fundraising campaign. This pioneering initiative, the first of its kind among New England hospitals, aims to raise money and awareness to support Children's clinical care and research for its increasingly diverse patient population.
According to the 2000 U.S. Census, Latinos are the largest minority group in Massachusetts with more than half a million Latinos living in the state. Of the 500,000 children that are seen at Children's every year, 20 percent are Latino. 65 percent of the patients at Children's Martha Eliot Health Center in Jamaica Plain are Latino.
Throughout the summer, Children's will partner with local media on fundraising events, including a two-day Milagros Para Niños Radiothon on July 31 and August 1 with radio partner Power 800 AM, Power 92.1 FM. The hospital will host the July 31 Radiothon in its Patient Entertainment Center. Canobie Lake Park is hosting Children's Hospital Boston Day on the second day of Radiothon.
Children's will also be the first-ever charitable partner for the Comcast Latino Family Festival, an event hosted by El Mundo Boston and the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, August 2nd at Fenway Park. More than 8,000 people will attend the event, featuring special live performances from top international recording artists Daddy Yankee and Victor Manuelle, a health and fitness pavilion, and kid's games and activities. Attendees will hear compelling miracle stories about Children's life-saving care for kids from all over the world on the Fenway Park Jumbotron and onstage presentations.
TV partner Entravision/Univision is hosting the Milagros Para Niños Telethon in November.
