World's Largest Pediatric Research Building Nearly Doubles in Size: Children's Hospital Boston Opens State-Of-The-Art Research Building
What:
The opening of the new 295,000 square foot research building at Children's Hospital Boston housing the world's largest research program based at a children's hospital. The building itself will be wrapped in a large blue ribbon.

Who:
The Children's research enterprise will expand to include 20 new laboratories and more than 800 additional scientists and support personnel. Children's and Harvard Medical School leadership, state and local politicians, and other dignitaries will be in attendance.

When:
Tuesday, October 21, 2003
1:30 p.m. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
2:00 p.m. press tour of the new research facilities

Where:
The New Research Building at Children's Hospital Boston One Blackfan Circle (directly across from the Children's Hospital traffic circle)

Why:
Children's Hospital Boston's research enterprise is home to some of the world's top scientists who strive to achieve medical breakthroughs. The current research building, the John F. Enders Pediatric Research Laboratories, has been home to many medical milestones, and with the addition of the new building, the research community hopes to find solutions to both pediatric and adult diseases. The building will bring together the creativity of Children's scientists and allow them to share ideas and innovations with their colleagues--ideas that may eventually lead to the medical breakthroughs of tomorrow.>p>

Founded in 1869 as a 20-bed hospital for children, today it is a 300-bed comprehensive center for pediatric and adolescent health care grounded in the values of excellence in patient care and sensitivity to the complex needs and diversity of children and families. More than 100 outpatient specialty clinics are located at Children's. Children's Hospital Boston is the primary pediatric teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, home to the world's leading pediatric research enterprise, and the largest provider of health care to the children of Massachusetts.
