July 16, 2007

Boston Red Sox players David "Big Papi" Ortiz and Julio Lugo present award to a stellar Latino student.
In an effort to recognize high-achieving Latino middle schoolers throughout Massachusetts, Children's is sponsoring a series of Latino Youth Recognition Days at Fenway Park. The first one was June 15 and the second July 16, with the last one to be held September 3, 2007. At the events, the students are recognized during pre-game, on-field ceremonies and given certificates of recognition by Red Sox players David "Big Papi" Ortiz, Wily Mo Peña, Julio Lugo and Alex Cora. El Mundo newspaper and the Red Sox developed the project to encourage academic excellence and are giving out more than 500 Sox tickets to inner-city youth. Inez Stewart, VP of Human Resources, Dr. James Mandell, President and CEO, and Michelle Davis, VP of Public Affairs, will serve as Children's representatives during the ceremonies.
