FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
June 18, 2005
2,300 Children's supporters walk Miles for Miracles
Walkers from all over New England hit the paths along the Charles River for Children's Hospital Boston. Boston Celtics Al Jefferson and Tony Allen joined patients, families, friends and hospital staff at Children's third annual pledge walk, Miles for Miracles, raising money to support pediatric research, patient care and community service.

While the walkers shared a common goal--enhancing Children's Hospital's care for kids--many had personal reasons for their involvement. Approximately 2,300 registered, including a record 158 teams. Each walker pledged to raise a minimum of $100 for the hospital. So far the Walk has raised $510,000 of its $550,000 goal for 2005.

"Miles for Miracles is a wonderful event, providing a chance for grateful patient families and friends, hospital staff and the community to walk in support of Children's Hospital," said Dr. James Mandell, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Boston. "The generous contributions to Miles for Miracles and other fundraising events strengthen Children's efforts to be the leading source of research and discovery, and provide the highest quality care to patients."

Children's Hospital also took the opportunity to highlight Kohl's Department Stores ongoing partnership with the hospital. With help from Celtics players and several kids, Kohl's representatives presented Children's with a check for more than $592,000. The money was raised through Kohl's Cares for Kids programs, which offers seasonal merchandise at its Massachusetts stores, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Children's.
