Event will feature reverse pitches and announce the launch of a new FHIR-based strategic initiative to improve pediatric health

Digital health startups and strategic partners will connect to explore new innovations and partnership opportunities at the MassChallenge PULSE@Check Digital Health Meetup on Oct. 18 at Hatch Fenway in Boston. The event is hosted in collaboration with the Innovation and Digital Health Accelerator (IDHA) at Boston Children’s Hospital and Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, and will feature a showcase of digital health startups and innovations, a lively panel discussion on health care partnerships, and a reverse pitch where PULSE@MassChallenge Champions will pitch their digital health challenges as they seek to partner with startups in key areas of interest.

During the reverse pitch session, John Brownstein, Ph.D., chief innovation officer at Boston Children’s, and Dr. David McCallie, senior vice president of medical informatics at Cerner, will announce a strategic initiative focused on interoperability of health information technology solutions using FHIR®. “Catching FHIR: An Interoperability Challenge” will invite pitches from innovators and startups around the world looking to advance health care, specifically pediatric care, through health care IT innovation (applications will be accepted until Nov. 9). The startup that is selected will receive access to the medical and technical expertise and reach of Boston Children’s and Cerner, as well as support in advancing their transformative solution. More information is available on the PULSE@MassChallenge website at

More than 20 innovations from Boston Children’s will be showcased at the event, including novel devices, mobile and web-based applications and software IT innovations. Cerner will demonstrate its open technology capabilities that enable outside innovators to build upon Cerner’s open health IT platform.

Carla Small, senior director at IDHA at Boston Children’s Hospital, and Sam Lambson, open platforms senior business strategist at Cerner, will lend their perspective in a joint presentation on health care partnerships.
