How to get help
Many parents first learn that their child is overweight at their annual check-up. If your child is overweight, his doctor might suggest lifestyle changes such as increasing physical activity and cutting back on juice and soda. These changes can often help.
But if your child has been really struggling to reach a healthy weight, he may benefit from working with specialists in the area of child weight management. The Optimal Weight for Life (OWL) program at Boston Children's Hospital is a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to treating children who are overweight or obese and those who have or are at risk for type 2 diabetes.
