The Pediatric Simulator Program at Boston Children’s Hospital is the first hospital-based simulator at a teaching hospital in New England. It is accredited by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the first pediatric center to be endorsed, and one of only 31 ASA Endorsed Centers Nationwide
The simulation suite is a dual-purpose simulation laboratory and procedure room with an adjacent control room and conference room located within a state-of-the-art Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
The Simulator Program operates as a post-graduate university for trainees from multiple disciplines and departments and offers a myriad of simulation-enhanced solutions to educational challenges that fall within four broad categories
- crisis resource management
- competency-based training
- professional staff development
- institutional policy implementation
Boston Children's Hospital Simulator Program User's Group Meeting
The Boston Children's Hospital is please to announce that our annual invited lecturer for our users group meeting is Amy Edmondson. Amy is the Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School. The Novartis Chair at Harvard was established to enable the study of human interactions that lead to the creation of successful business enterprises for the betterment of society. Edmondson's research examines leadership, learning and innovation in teams and organizations, and has been published in numerous academic and managerial articles. The emphasis of most of her work is on teaming - the activities that comprise collaborative work across boundaries - rather than on stable team structures. About Us
The Boston Children's Hospital Simulator Program will form an education center to advance and support medical education for all health care providers at Boston Children's Hospital. Through the development and adaptation of innovative teaching strategies, the program will teach to a wide array of practitioners via experiential learning. The Program will seek to make substantial contributions to global pediatric education and foster collaborative research by assisting in the development of international simulation centers.
To recruit, train and retain Boston Children's staff via the development of a simulation-based post graduate university
The BCHSP ran a very successful ECMO Transport Course to test a new protocol and transport stretcher for transporting ECMO patients. The simulation emcompased not only the protocol within the hospital, but also within a moving ambulance. This allowed the transport team to get a real feeling for how the circuit reacted to live transport and how to prepare for transporting an actual ECMO patient.
